Crimes motivated by bias against race, religion, national origin/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender/gender identity and disability are on the rise across the country and here in Michigan.
This law enforcement training was created and is presented by law enforcement experts from the United States Attorneys’ Offices, Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Michigan Department of State Police (Field Services Bureau, MIOC Fusion Center, and MICR Section), and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
Training Objectives:
Through a series of presentations, participants will learn to effectively identify hate and bias crime activity, better understand key developments of the MICR reporting system, learn recent developments in hate crime investigation and intelligence gathering, as well as hear from experts on state and federal hate crime prosecution under the new federal hate crime law. This training will also offer attendees a structured opportunity to discuss community-based response systems to address the needs of communities and their victims.
Registration in required by June 11, 2010, as seating is limited.
Light refreshments will be provided; however lunch (12:00 - 1:00) is on your own.
